President Donald Trump has promised to dole out billions of dollars to Americans in an effort to woo voters worried about affordability ahead of the midterm elections next month.
Trump on Monday unveiled the Harvest Fuel Relief program, under which the Department of Agriculture will make $8B available for one-time payments to farmers this harvest season to offset higher input costs.
The department said the program will provide support to farmers using a uniform formula to cover a portion of modeled losses during the 2026 crop year.
"When the Republicans win, we will pass even more funding for our farmers," Trump said during a rally in Kansas when announcing the farmer bailout program.
This follows other promises made by Trump ahead of the midterms, including $5,000 to each adult citizen if Republicans hold on to their congressional majority and $90 checks for seniors enrolled in Medicare Part B.
On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced a $25M program to reward whistleblowers for tips that expose fraud and lead to criminal charges. The awards would range from $10,000 to $30,000.
The administration also recently sent $500 checks to nearly 1M people as refunds for what it described as excessive fees under the Affordable Care Act.
Executive orders aimed at addressing high prices, including one focused on reducing housing costs, may be announced in the coming days, people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.
