BATU PAHAT: The father of Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, the 16-year-old girl found dead in her school yesterday, has vowed to fight for justice for his daugther.

Mohd Khairool Faisal, 42, said he and other family members would ensure that his only child would receive due justice.

"I will continue to fight... (but) I need the support of everyone, for my daughter's sake.

"We hope whoever is responsible receives an appropriate punishment. We leave it entirely to the authorities to conduct the investigation," he said when met after Irene Sofiya's burial.

Khairool said he was only told of what happened to Irene Sofiya, affectionately known as Fiya, about 6pm yesterday.

He said his sister, Siti Nur Faeza Khyar, 45, told him about it in a phone call.

"I was working in Bangi at the time, and I rushed back to our kampung. I last saw Fiya two weeks ago... she was cheerful then and enjoying her studies," he said.

Khairool thanked everyone for the support shown to his family following the incident.

"Alhamdulillah, everything (arrangements for Irene Sofiya's funeral prayers and burial) went smoothly from beginning to end. I am grateful to everyone who came to support us since yesterday. We are unable to repay their kindness," she said.

Irene Sofiya was buried at the Kampung Parit Arshad Muslim cemetery.

A 16-year-old who is understood to be a classmate of Irene Sofiya was ordered detained under remand for six days to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
