Asian Games 2026, Day 5: Indian results on September 23 — How many medals did India win?

India enjoyed a productive Day 5 at the Asian Games on September 23, highlighted by Mirabai Chanu’s silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event. Shooting added two bronze medals through the men’s and women’s skeet teams, while Jay Meena created history by winning India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis. The men’s badminton team also secured bronze after losing 1-3 to China in the semifinal. Roshibina Devi progressed to the women’s 60kg wushu final, assuring India of another medal. Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the women’s 10m air pistol final. India’s women’s hockey team routed Thailand 20-1, while both the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams registered convincing group-stage victories.

Men’s 100m Butterfly, Heat 2: Benedicton Rohit finished fourth in his heat in 53.08s and 13th overall; Sajan Prakash did not start. Neither qualified for the final.

Men’s 200m Freestyle, Heat 2: Aneesh Gowda finished fourth in the heat in 1:51.20 and 11th overall; Vedaant Madhavan was sixth in the heat in 1:52.01 and 13th overall. Neither qualified for the final.

Men’s 100m Butterfly Final: No Indian qualified.

Men’s 200m Freestyle Final: No Indian qualified.

Men’s Kayak Four 500m Heats: Oinam Arun Singh, Harshwardhan Singh Shaktawat, Varinder Singh and Naocha Singh Laitonjam finished third in their heat and qualified directly for the final.

Women’s Canoe Single 200m Heats: Megha Pradeep finished fifth and qualified for the semifinal.

Women’s Kayak Double 500m Heats: Parvathy Geetha/Soniya Devi Phairembam qualified for the final.

Men’s Sabre Individual, Pool Stage: Gisho Nidhi Kumaresan Padma and Karan Singh advanced to the Round of 32.
