‘Tributo al Rey Con Banda Vol. 2’ Unites Vicente Fernández With Different Generations: Stream It Here

Vicente Fernández continues to amaze with the material he left behind before his death on Dec. 12, 2021. Recordings of his most iconic hits, accompanied by Sinaloan banda instead of mariachi, have been compiled into two volumes, featuring the voices of other standout artists in the regional Mexican genre.

Tributo al Rey con Banda (Grandes Duetos Vol. 2), the sixth posthumous production, was released on Tuesday (Sept. 15) via Sony Music. The set includes 10 new duets with established stars such as Julio Preciado on “Las Llaves de Mi Alma,” Ana Bárbara on “Hermoso Cariño” and Joan Sebastian on “El Último Barco.”

Other artists featured on this compilation include Banda MS on “Por Tu Maldito Amor,” Edwin Luna y La Trakalosa de Monterrey on “Qué de Raro Tiene,” Víctor García on “Para Siempre,” Joss Favela on “Bohemio de Afición” and Lenin Ramírez on the focus track, “Cruz de Olvido.”

“We selected these collaborations with the goal of ensuring that my father’s musical legacy continues to transcend time,” Vicente Fernández Jr., the project’s executive producer and son of Fernández, told Billboard Español.

“For me, it’s a great honor and privilege to be part of this,” added Lenin Ramírez, part of the new-generation of música mexicana artists. “I’m so grateful to the Fernández family for choosing me. I hope people enjoy the version I created, and I send a huge hug to Vicente Fernández up in heaven.”

The album follows Tributo al Rey con Banda (Grandes Duetos Vol. 1), released this past May, which featured performances from Alejandro Fernández, Christian Nodal and Banda El Recodo, among others.

Throughout his career, Vicente Fernández released more than 70 albums and acted in over 30 films. He also received accolades such as the 2002 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Known as “El Charro de Huentitán,” he remains the most significant figure in ranchera music, boasting 15 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His classic rendition of “El Rey” tops Billboard‘s 50 Best Mariachi Songs of All Time list, which was published earlier today (Sept. 15).
