Though everyone is more than entitled to their own opinion, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask has a solid argument to say that it's certainly one of the most interesting releases in the history of the franchise. The tone is a lot darker than Ocarina of Time, and it has some really interesting mechanics that help to deliver its apocalyptic premise.

As such, it's surprising how little it crops up in modern discussions about the older games in the series, with much of the attention taken up by games like Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and the aforementioned Ocarina. That could all be about to change, though, as Nintendo has decided to thrust Majora's Mask back into the spotlight, and it could mean its return is next up for fans.

As first reported by CBR, there is a newly animated version of the Majora’s Mask’s key visual art, which has been published via the Nintendo Today App. The new release is a short, 7-second look at the main key visual art for the game if it came to life, but it's the implications of its publication that really makes things interesting.

Back in July, fans discovered the IMDB page of Adult Link voice actor Noboyuki Hiyama had been updated with an unannounced game currently in post-production called The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask HD. Add to that the fact that the above animation is the third release tied to the game in as many weeks, and things really start to look interesting.

The first was the release of Majora’s Mask digital collectible cards on the Nintendo Today App, before Nintendo also went on to announce the soundtrack’s addition to Nintendo Music, as well as the release of new NSO icon parts based on the game.

The developer drawing all of that attention to Majora's Mask, seemingly out of nowhere, is unlikely to be a coincidence, particularly given the game's position as a sequel to Ocarina of Time. It's likely an attempt to avoid a similar situation to the release of the remake of Majora's Mask for the 3DS.

That also came after Ocarina of Time made a return for the platform, but the pause between the arrival of the two games caused fans to be very upset about what ended up being a two-year gap between the HD releases.

The Ocarina of Time Remake is coming very soon indeed for fans, with the release currently scheduled for November. We'll have to sit tight and wait to hear from Nintendo if they plan to follow suit with Majora's Mask, but the signs are certainly looking good right now that they are intending to return to the game soon.
