Sabrina Carpenter to Play Ginger Rogers in Fred Astaire Biopic

Sabrina Carpenter is slipping into Ginger Rogers’ shoes for a new biopic. The Man’s Best Friend singer has been tapped (pun very much intended) to play the silver screen legend in a still-untitled Paul King film about Fred Astaire, Deadline reports. Tom Holland will star as the Old Hollywood triple-threat, while Margaret Qualley will play the performer’s older sister, Adele, one of Astaire’s earliest dance partners and a star on Broadway and London’s West End in her own right.

“Fred left a timeless legacy of dance on film, most famously in his collaborations with Ginger Rogers, while Adele’s work has been lost to history; indeed, no footage of her dancing survives,” King shared in a statement. ”The cinematic challenge of bringing to life these icons of the 20th century is one that I could not imagine without Tom Holland, Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter by my side.”

The casting announcement caps off an already-stacked year for Carpenter, who has performed at the Grammys, headlined Coachella, and collaborated with Madonna over the past few months. She also won her first Emmy earlier this month for executive producing and performing in The Muppet Show.
