LUCENA CITY – Two crew members were injured after a fire of still undetermined origin broke out aboard a motor tanker at a port at Calaca City in Batangas on Wednesday night (Sept. 30).

In a report, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Southern Tagalog District said the fire started in the engine room of motor tanker “GINDARA” while it was docked at the Balayan Distillery Inc. port in Barangay Talisay.

The vessel was carrying molasses and had 22 crew members on board when the fire began.

PCG personnel, local firefighters, and volunteers rushed to the scene to contain the blaze, while the 44-meter multi-role response vessel BRP Malapascua was deployed to reinforce firefighting efforts.

Two crew members sustained injuries and were transported to medical facilities for treatment.

The PCG continues to monitor the situation closely and coordinate with the local fire station, port authorities, tugboat operators, and other concerned stakeholders.
