The Great British Bake Off finds new streaming home as Channel 4 signs major deal

The Great British Bake Off and other Channel 4 shows are set to air on Disney+ under a new deal struck with The Walt Disney Company.

From early 2027, Disney+ subscribers will be able to watch Channel 4's linear HD channel on the platform and will also gain access to the broadcaster's on-demand catalogue, which includes shows such as Big Mood, Tip Toe and 24 Hours in A&E.

The on-demand offering will also involve multiple Channel 4 shows being made available each year to Disney+ subscribers in line with their release on Channel 4.

These include the upcoming thriller series Maya featuring Bella Ramsey, Josh Pugh's new comedy Stepping Up and hit reality show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Channel 4 will be available via a Channel 4-branded section featuring the same navigation and user experience as the rest of Disney+.

Bella Ramsey leans her head against Daisy Haggard who has a bleeding lip and appears to be holding back tears. The pair are sat in front of a body of water.

Priya Dogra, Channel 4 chief executive, said in a statement: "We’re thrilled to be working with Disney+ to give audiences even more ways to discover and enjoy Channel 4’s brilliant shows. Channel 4 is home to some of the UK and Ireland’s most talked about and trusted programming, and this new service will help those shows reach viewers in new places.

"This exciting step shows how collaboration between broadcasters and streamers can create more choice and value for audiences."

Adam Smith, chairman of direct-to-consumer at Disney Entertainment, added: "Local broadcaster partnerships are very important as we build our content libraries and serve fans around the world. Channel 4 has created shows with strong appeal to audiences in the UK and Ireland, and we’re excited to bring some of those favourites to Disney+.

"This agreement is the latest example of our global strategy, pairing high-quality local programming and cultural relevance with a complementary audience and more personalised streaming experience on Disney+."

Bake Off is currently airing its 17th season on Channel 4, with TV chef Nigella Lawson joining Paul Hollywood following Prue Leith's decision to leave.

The show moved from the BBC in 2017 after Love Productions, the company that makes the programme, signed a deal with the rival broadcaster.

The Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesday 27 October at 8pm on Channel 4.
