Prime Video's hit rom-com The Love Hypothesis is already getting a sequel

The Love Hypothesis may have only been released on Prime Video last week, but it looks like the hit romantic comedy could be getting a sequel at some point in the not-so-distant future.

The film is based on Ali Hazelwood's 2021 novel of the same name, with the story following Dr Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) and student Olive Smith (Lili Reinhart) as they put their contrasting theories on love to the test.

After being released on 23 September, the rom-com surged to the top of the streamer's worldwide film chart following its premiere, and it is still in the top position at the time of writing (via FlixPatrol).

And now, following the success of the film, Hazelwood has confirmed via social media that she has written a direct sequel to her novel, with The Two-Body Problem set to be released on 2 February 2027.

"'I wrote a sequel to The Love Hypothesis' is not a sentence I thought I'd say a year or so ago, but now I weirdly can't imagine a world in which The Two-Body Problem doesn't exist," wrote the author on Instagram.

"I'm really eager to talk more about this book and how it came about in the next few months. For now let me just say that the TLH movie and its cast made me fall for Adam and Olive all over again, [and] that revisiting them was an absolute pleasure.

"The Two-Body Problem spans a couple of years, and it's a mix of slice-of-life, postdoctoral turmoil, and unflinching exploration of the hardest challenge one will face in a long-term relationship: deciding what to have for dinner."

The novelist added that MRC, the production company behind The Love Hypothesis, was already in talks with Amazon MGM Studios about developing an adaptation of her latest novel, though she did stress that "nothing is guaranteed".

Several followers expressed their excitement in the comment section, with one writing: "Also I need the sequel to go ahead as a film with Lili & Tom as Olive & Adam!!! I am not above begging."

In addition to its popularity with viewers, The Love Hypothesis has also been praised by critics since its release, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting a solid approval rating of 76% from 54 reviews.
