Molineux a doubt for Bangladesh ODIs with hip injury

Molineux was not part of the Victoria squad for the opening round of WNCL matches which start tomorrow. Australia's squad for the three ODIs against Bangladesh, which will all be played in Brisbane on October 9, 11 and 14, is due to be named on Wednesday.

A CA spokesperson said: "Sophie has an injury to her hip joint and her involvement in the upcoming series will continue to be assessed."

Molineux's career has been hit by injuries, most recently a back problem which interrupted the start of her captaincy earlier this year. She toured West Indies as a batter-only before recovering to play a full all-round role at the T20 World Cup where she led Australia to the title.

Australia play six matches during October with three T20Is against New Zealand to follow the Bangladesh one-dayers. New Zealand then return in March for three ODIs after the inaugural Champions Trophy in India.

Tahlia McGrath and Ashleigh Gardner were named joint vice-captains earlier this year. It was McGrath who captained in West Indies earlier in the year when Molineux didn't play but she was unable to force her way into the XI throughout the T20 World Cup.

Gardner, meanwhile, was given the backing of the Cricket Australia board in August to remain a vice-captain following her relationship with Georgia Voll becoming public which led to the breakdown of her marriage.

"While my separation from my wife is a personal matter, I understand my current relationship status needed to be addressed by Cricket Australia given my position as vice-captain," Gardner said in an Instagram post at the time.

"I am grateful that the CA Board has chosen to support my continued leadership. I look forward to playing a strong role as a leader and providing the best possible support for my teammates in the season to come."
