The Blues Brothers Gets A Legendary LEGO Redesign 46 Years Later

The Blues Brothers was an overnight sensation during its era, and now it could be making a major comeback.

Very few vehicles in movie history have turned being battered, noisy, and seemingly indestructible into something as iconic and appealing as the Bluesmobile. More than four decades after The Blues Brothers arrived in theaters, the famous police car is now the subject of a fan-designed LEGO Ideas project.

LEGO Ideas creator vintagelover has submitted a model inspired by Jake and Elwood Blues' extremely recognizable car. The proposed build features the Bluesmobile alongside minifigures of the two titular brothers, recreating one of the defining elements from the beloved 1980 musical comedy.

According to its LEGO Ideas listing, the project consists of 442 pieces. Rather than attempting a large-scale collector model, the design keeps the vehicle relatively smaller while incorporating several details associated with the source material.

It's important to note that the Bluesmobile project is not currently an official LEGO product. LEGO Ideas is an official program run by the LEGO Group that allows fans to design and submit original concepts and garner public support. Projects that reach 10,000 supporters become eligible for LEGO's official review process. However, reaching that milestone does not necessarily guarantee that a set will ultimately be manufactured.

The LEGO Ideas version recreates the car's familiar black-and-white design in brick form. The proposed model can be pushed along like a traditional LEGO vehicle and has enough interior space to fit four minifigures. The designer has also incorporated storage space behind the seats, giving builders somewhere to place smaller accessories.

The car from the actual film was based on a 1974 Dodge Monaco. In The Blues Brothers, Jake is released from prison and reunites with Elwood before the two decide to revive their band. They wanted to raise enough money to help save the Catholic orphanage where they grew up.

For now, fans will have to support The Blues Brothers project through its LEGO Ideas page if they want to see it move closer to becoming an official set. However, even if it reaches the required 10,000 supporter threshold, LEGO would still need to approve the idea during its formal review process, making it significantly more competitive than it seems to be.
