Two British tourists killed in N4 crash in Mpumalanga

Three people, including two tourists from the United Kingdom, have been killed in a multiple-vehicle collision on the N4 Toll Road near Ngodwana in Mpumalanga.

The crash happened on Wednesday afternoon when a truck travelling on the D799 Kapsehoop Road reportedly skipped the intersection and collided with three vehicles travelling on the N4.

The vehicles involved were two light delivery vehicles (LDVs) and a sports utility vehicle (SUV).

According to authorities, the two UK nationals were travelling in the SUV when the collision occurred. Both the driver and passenger were killed in the crash.

The driver of one of the LDVs also died at the scene.

Two seriously injured

The truck driver and occupants of the other LDV were rushed to Kiaat Hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency services remained at the scene as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The N4 was partially closed following the crash, with traffic moving slowly through the affected section.

Motorists have been urged to approach the area with caution and expect delays.

Investigation underway

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the truck entering the intersection and colliding with the three vehicles.

The MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison expressed condolences to the families of the three people who lost their lives and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

The identities of the deceased had not been released at the time of publication.
