President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a member of the Gaza Executive Board under the Board of Peace, discussed developments in Gaza and the wider Middle East during a meeting in El Alamein, North Coast, on Sunday, 16 August.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency Office, El-Sisi stressed the need for all parties to fulfil their obligations under the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad.

The two sides also discussed developments across the Middle East, with El-Sisi stressing the need to address the region’s ongoing crises and continue efforts to support regional and international security and stability.

During the meeting, Kushner conveyed greetings from Trump to El-Sisi. The Egyptian president, in turn, asked him to convey his greetings to the US president.

Kushner also praised Egypt’s role in addressing regional issues and described Cairo as a key partner for the United States in the Middle East, according to the presidency.

The talks come amid efforts to advance the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, reached during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025. The agreement included a ceasefire, the exchange of detainees, increased humanitarian aid and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

However, the implementation of the agreement has faced continued challenges, with disputes over the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
