iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) closed more than 4% lower on Friday, marking its ninth consecutive session of declines and capping its longest losing streak since May 2026 amid a broader selloff of chip stocks.
The fund, which tracks companies in the semiconductor sector, lost nearly 12% this week, its biggest weekly decline since April 2025, as all but two of the 34 constituents of the ETF ended in negative territory.
A selloff that began amid worries over the pace of AI buildout and credit concerns affecting CoreWeave (CRWV) deepened after the latest CPI report indicated a hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation, fueling fears over a more restrictive monetary policy from the Federal Reserve.
Applied Materials (AMAT), ASE Technology (ASX), SK Hynix (SKHY), Credo Technology (CRDO), and Teradyne (TER) all lost more than 15% to become the five biggest laggards of SOXX this week. NXP Semiconductors (NXPI), Microchip Technology (MCHP), QUALCOMM (QCOM), Texas Instruments (TXN), and Analog Devices (ADI) were among the top five outperformers.
