Sally Lindsay has vowed to continue making The Madame Blanc Mysteries for "as long as you lot watch it" when recently asked about its future.

The 5 cosy crime drama returns today (Thursday 29 October) for its fifth outing (which also includes a Christmas special), in which Jean and Dom are busy planning their wedding, "only to find that nothing can prepare them for the obstacles ahead".

In the first episode, Dom's heavily pregnant and highly distressed daughter Claudie turns up unexpectedly at their door, while "a dead body is found in one of the show's iconic locations".

"Viewers will also witness the full wrath of John Marsden," continues the synopsis, as they "wait to see whether Jean and Dom finally make it down the aisle".

"I absolutely love it," Lindsay told Radio Times of writing the series with co-star Sue Vincent. "I'm in your Jonathan Creek and your Midsomer Murders and Death in Paradise world, and I love it. And I think the world is so strong, like those worlds. So as long as the audience watch it and as long as our bosses want to pay for it, and people want to be in it, brilliant guest stars still want to be in it, for me it's not going anywhere."

Season 5's guest stars include EastEnders and Doctor Who favourite Bonnie Langford, Justin Moorhouse (Phoenix Nights), Brian Capron (Coronation Street), Lesley Joseph (Birds of a Feather) and Jason Manford (Waterloo Road).

Su Pollard (Hi-de-Hi!), Louisa Lytton (EastEnders), Frazer Hines (Doctor Who) and Zoe Lyons (Mock the Week) have also joined the latest instalment.

They will appear alongside main ensemble Steve Edge as Dom, Robin Askwith and Sue Holderness as Jeremy and Judith, Alex Gaumond as Chief of Police André Caron, Tony Robinson as Uncle Patrick and Paul Chuckle as Gloria’s dad Trevor.

"It just gets stronger," added Lindsay. "We've got the play coming and the book [Madame Blanc and the Antiques Affair] is also coming out. The world of Madame Blanc – they call it 'brand' now, the kids – the brand just seems to be getting bigger.

"So I'm very happy to carry on. I'm not going anywhere, Sue’s not going anywhere. We get to do other things, we're always enveloped in other projects as well. But we love doing it and everybody else loves doing it.

"So we're good to go if they want us."

The Madame Blanc Mysteries returns to 5 at 9:05pm on Thursday 29 October.
