Coronation Street reveals two huge Kit Green shocks in courtroom drama

Coronation Street's Kit Green made two shocking moves tonight as Sarah Platt's trial continued. The detective took to the witness stand to deliver an unexpected testimony. But could he have ruined Sarah's chance of freedom?
The episode began with Kit remaining firm in his decision not to support his ex-girlfriend in court. Despite pleas from her barrister, Kit claimed he was too tired from his recent chemotherapy.

Bernie Winter-Alahan gave her son a pep talk, urging him not throw away his future with Sarah. Bethany Platt also begged him to see sense, claiming they both owe Sarah after their one-night stand.
In court, Gary Windass tried to defend Sarah, pointing out Theo Silverton's large frame, hot temper and his abuse of Todd Grimshaw. But after some stern questions from the prosecution, Sarah's defence seemed futile.
Later, Kit arrived to take to the stand, much to everyone's surprise. And his testimony left them even more shocked, as he began to assassinate her character.
"The woman who played me for a fool for months? Who strung me along? Who humiliated me professionally? Who dumped me? And then put my career in danger by asking me to be a character witness for her?" he began. "No. What she is, is selfish. How's that for good moral character?"
The Platts were furious at his statement, shouting at him from their seats. But when asked by the barrister if Sarah was capable of murder, the detective admitted she wasn't.

"Everything I said was true. But despite all that, at the end of the day, she's just a hard-working mother who was cornered by a violent man," he said.
"The idea that she set out to kill anyone is ridiculous. She was protecting herself... She's not a murderer."
Back in prison, Sarah called Bethany, David and Shona, explaining that her barrister wasn't confident about her chances and that they need to "prepare for the worst". She asked Bethany to take care of Harry if she's sent down.
With the trial coming to a close tomorrow, could Kit's risky statement have helped or hindered his ex?
