MANILA, Philippines – “Trentahin” Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the consequences of postponing the barangay and SK elections from this year to 2028.
The 73,731 vacant barangay and SK seats as of September 29 could remain empty for two more years or be filled by mayoral appointees. This year’s postponement also marks the 16th time the elections have been postponed, separately or jointly, since 1982.
