KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) aims to retain its existing seats and targets to wrest potentially winnable seats in the Melaka state election, said PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

The communications minister said the matter was among those discussed at the PH presidential council meeting held yesterday evening to fine-tune preparations for the coalition’s election machinery.

“Our baseline is the seats we want to retain. At the same time, we are looking for opportunities to wrest several seats. If our efforts and strategies are properly executed, it is not impossible for us to bring about a change.

“We have our targets, but we are realistic and understand the situation. Nevertheless, we see several factors that could enable the seats we are targeting to swing to Pakatan Harapan,” he told reporters after the presentation of the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency Deepavali contributions here last night.

On preparations by the election machinery, Fahmi said the Presidential Council had been briefed by Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari and Melaka PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) acting chairman Adam Adli Abdul Halim on the state-level readiness.

“As for the candidates announced recently, I can see that they are continuing their groundwork, and we believe that by the nomination day on October 31, Insya-Allah, PH candidates will be ready to face those contesting in the Melaka state election,” he said.

Apart from the Melaka state polls, he said the PH Presidential Council meeting was also briefed on the dissolution of the Sarawak state legislative assembly and several initiatives for the implementation of government reforms.

Meanwhile, on facilities for media personnel covering the Melaka state polls, Fahmi said a main media centre operated by the Information Department would begin operations from October 30 to November 14 at Hotel Mudzaffar, Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Ayer Keroh. — Bernama
