Indonesian Red Cross reaffirms support for Palestine

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Chairman Jusuf Kalla reaffirmed the organization's support for Palestine during a meeting with Grand Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein on Monday.

Kalla said PMI, a humanitarian organization guided by neutrality and impartiality, would continue distributing aid to Palestinians.

"The PMI has a non-negotiable humanitarian mandate. Regardless of the political situation, we will continue to stand by the Palestinian people," Kalla said, according to an official statement.

He said Indonesia's solidarity with Palestine would continue, adding that the Red Cross remains committed to providing medical, logistical, and psychosocial support to Palestinians.

"Indonesia will always stand with the Palestinian people. Through the PMI, we will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and advocate for a just and lasting peace," Kalla said.

The meeting at Kalla's residence was also attended by Palestinian President's Special Envoy and Adviser Mahmoud Al-Habbash and Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattari.

Al-Habbash thanked Indonesia for its warm welcome and continued support, describing Indonesia as a friend that consistently defends Palestine in international forums.

During the visit, Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein presented Kalla with a traditional Palestinian keffiyeh.

PMI said the gesture was more than a souvenir, describing it as a symbol of respect for Indonesia's role in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and other Palestinian territories.
