Bungoma teacher arrested over suspected Sh300,000 TSC jobs bribe
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a teacher in Bungoma County over allegations of soliciting bribes from three unemployed colleagues by promising them jobs at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
EACC said the teacher at Friends School Kamusinga was arrested on Monday following investigations into complaints that she had allegedly demanded Sh100,000 from each of the three job seekers.
"The suspect was arrested on October 12, 2026 following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had demanded Sh100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, totalling Sh300,000," the EACC said.
The commission said preliminary investigations indicated that Sh150,000 had allegedly been paid to her through an M-Pesa number.
She is accused of duping jobless teachers by claiming she has “connections” within the TSC and other government offices that could facilitate the recruitment.
The suspect was processed at the EACC’s Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Police Station pending further investigations.
EACC said she is likely to face charges of requesting and receiving a bribe under Section 6 as read with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.
The latest incident follows a similar case in Bomet County, where four suspects were arrested in January over an alleged fraud scheme involving fake TSC recruitment letters that cost job seekers millions of shillings.
The suspects were identified as a sub-county TSC director, a former Bomet County woman representative aspirant and two teachers.
The four were arrested following investigations into allegations that they defrauded unemployed teachers and other members of the public by demanding large sums of money in exchange for forged appointment letters promising permanent and pensionable employment with the commission.
Investigations indicated that some victims took out loans, sold property or depleted their savings in pursuit of the promised jobs.
The alleged fraud network is believed to extend beyond Bomet to Kericho, Narok, Kisii and Nyamira counties, with investigations ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects linked to the scheme.
