Resident Evil's new movie reveal makes one of the wilder theories about the film and its ending look even more possible, albeit perhaps not in the way audiences may have hoped for. 2026's Resident Evil movie has been a redemption of sorts for the franchise and its film empire, having won the hearts and minds of many viewers, along with garnering a healthy box office total already.

A huge part of this is how the 2026 movie explores the infected setting of Raccoon City, as rather than having a more conventional action hero take on the dangers that lurk around every corner, we follow the plight of Bryan, a courier sent to make sure an urgent medical delivery gets to its destination, leading the unlucky civilian to find himself accidentally right in the middle of some absolute chaos.

Though it looks for a while as though Bryan himself may escape unscathed, Resident Evil's ending counters this in brutal fashion, with Bryan mutating into a colossal and violent form after nobody is able to administer the antidote to him in time, and our final look at him cementing his journey from a kind and gentle-seeming person to the kind of figure people would kill in the games without thinking twice. With that said, Resident Evil's latest updates suggest some interesting things about Bryan's last on-screen chapter.

Resident Evil's Movie Update Makes The Theory Bryan Survived Look Surprisingly Possible

In the wake of Resident Evil's theatrical release, the official Resident Evil movie X account shared an intriguing post showing what appears to be an in-universe scan of a distended and mutated skull made by the Umbrella Corporation, with the notable reference label of "BRN-0065_H".

Looking at this, it appears that this is intended to suggest that Bryan's mutated body was kept and researched on via the Umbrella Corporation after Resident Evil's ending.

While this could well be part of a post-mortem autopsy after Bryan's death, given the seemingly certain death injuries and scenarios that other characters in Resident Evil's wider lore have survived, the post does raise the possibility that Bryan didn't actually die at the very end of the movie, despite facing down the National Guard's helicopters. Even if Bryan was massively injured, it's very possible the Umbrella Corporation would have been willing to experiment on him to keep him alive, both to study how the infection works, and to analyze Bryan's more intensive-looking mutation itself.

This would add more to Resident Evil's story, by suggesting that Bryan could appear later down the line, or that at minimum his mutated form could be one of the enemies that game protagonists like Leon take on during their own missions around Raccoon City.

Bryan Surviving The Plot Of 2026's Resident Evil Could Be The Worst Ending For Him

Though Bryan surviving Resident Evil despite the odds would in some ways make many fan dreams come true, this wouldn't exactly be a happy ending for the character unless the Umbrella Corporation were able to somehow entirely reverse his mutation, which seems decidedly unlikely for a wide range of reasons.

Even if Bryan survives the events of Resident Evil, rather than being able to return to his partner and help raise their child, it seems he would at best be a raging mutated beast who isn't in control of his own body, and who would have to watch himself harm others if he still has any sentience of his own left.

As such, while it's majorly interesting to note that the Resident Evil tease makes the prospect of Bryan's survival all the more possible, it's also hard to know whether this is indeed something fans should hope for, as the chances of Bryan retaining any of the humanity that defined his character throughout the 2026 film seems dire at best all things considered.
