Spider-Man Names The 1 Marvel Superhero He Absolutely Can't Stand

Adam has been writing in the entertainment news space for over a decade. Beginning his career of covering film and TV at CinemaBlend, he has also appeared on The Flash Podcast and done several radio spots.
In the 63 years that Spider-Man has been swinging around the Marvel Universe, he’s demonstrated himself to be a noble and friendly neighborhood crimefighter, albeit annoying to some because of his wisecracks. Nevertheless, his reputation with the public can be hit or miss depending on what The Daily Bugle is publishing about him or if the New York Police Department is after him for any number of misunderstandings. Chock that up to the ol’ Parker luck.
Conversely, Peter Parker maintains relatively good relationships with most of his fellow superheroes, and is particularly close with the Fantastic Four and Daredevil. That said, there are a few crimefighters with whom he has more tense, if not fractured dynamics. For example, he and The Punisher are often at odds because Spidey doesn’t condone Frank Castle's lethal methods.
However, now Spider-Man has revealed the one Marvel superhero he can’t stand whatsoever. What’s even worse for the Web-Slinger is that he and this individual are serving on the same Avengers team, so they have no choice but to interact with each other.
Spider-Man Is Not A Fan Of The New Miracleman
Avengers (Volume 10) #1, Written By Chip Zdarsky, Art By Marco Checchetto
Following the events of Avengers: Armageddon, a new Avengers team has emerged, with Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Wolverine, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and David Colton, a.k.a. Miracleman, comprising the roster. Yet, Spidey makes it quickly clear he’s not a fan of Colton. The two exchange blows after the former finds the latter destroying some military weaponry at Stark Tower in an unsubtle fashion as part of his crusade to improve the world.
After identifying Colton as a former Captain America, “current global super-powered pariah,” and the man who “trashed half of Europe fighting the Red Hulk,” Spider-Man angrily accuses his opponent of being the one responsible for the gargantuan Thunderbolt Ross “blowing up in Russia, killing thousands.” Disgusted by how Colton’s actions have made the world “fear” superheroes, Spidey doesn’t welcome Colton’s presence in New York City, and wastes no time physically expressing his grievances. Mayor Luke Cage even has to get personally involved.
Spider-Man And Miracleman’s Fight Comes As Trust In Superheroes Is Low
As Spider-Man indicated, what happened in Avengers: Armageddon resulted in the public’s distrust of superheroes becoming arguably the highest it’s been since the Civil War event. From Ross trying to impose global democracy, to Colton throwing almost all the world’s nuclear weapons into the sun, Armageddon shook up the Marvel Universe in some major ways. From Spidey’s perspective, the new Miracleman is largely responsible for why superheroes are being looked down upon by many.
Despite his distaste for Colton, Peter will have to learn to work with him to combat the Avengers’ newest threat. Avengers #1 sets up this latest incarnation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes having to go up against Mephisto, who was usurped as Hell’s ruler by Doctor Doom in the Captain America series. Doom’s first act was to void Mephisto’s past contracts, which has subsequently led to the demon and his forces coming to Earth to reverse those effects. This is how new Marvel hero Paige Howley has entered the picture.
Additionally, S.H.I.E.L.D. is now targeting the Avengers and all other superheroes. This comes after the United Nations agreed to fund the intelligence agency in exchange for enforcing the banning of superpowers, which all the U.N.’s member states agreed to except for the United States. Fortunately for the Avengers, they won’t have to deal with this obstacle on their own. The resurfaced Nick Fury Sr. and resurrected Bucky Barnes are teaming up to foil these efforts, which will be explored in the Immortal Soldiers one-shot.
