New PlayStation Hardware Officially Lands October 30, Pre-Orders Open Now

Major developments like the PlayStation 6 could still be years away, but in the meantime, PlayStation's most surprising hardware release is only a few weeks away. Along with its typical white and black consoles and peripherals, PlayStation occasionally offers more flavorful spins on its essential hardware products.
This time, the creative reinterpretation comes courtesy of a collaboration. Last year, PlayStation kicked off a marketing campaign with LISA, a member of the K-pop group Blackpink and a solo superstar in her own right. Last month, this campaign took another major step with the reveal of a licensed DualSense controller peripheral, and pre-orders for the collaboration are now open.
Revealed on the official PlayStation Blog, the LISA PlayStation controller takes more than loose inspiration from the K-pop idol, putting her eyes and bangs in the middle of the DualSense's central touchpad. This startling centerpiece is flanked by stylized stars — another LISA motif seen in other products like her solo lightstick — and two Ls that stand for her full first name, Lalisa.
Pre-orders for the LISA DualSense opened on October 2, with the controller going for $84.00 on the official PlayStation website. Participating retailers should also have it in stock on the release date of October 30 for an MSRP of $84.99. PlayStation warns that the controller is "available in highly limited quantities," but so far, the pre-orders haven't sold out.
The DualSense itself is just the start, as a full array of LISA x PlayStation products will also be available on Amazon starting October 23. Ranging from a dad cap to a tote bag, most of these tie-ins feature the same eyes and bangs imagery as the controller. The launch will synchronize with the release of LISA's new EP, Press Play, which is also set for an October 23 debut. Another merchandise collection was also intended to drop on October 2 through PlayStation's website, but it was delayed, with details of a new launch date coming later.
This is PlayStation's first collaboration with a K-pop idol to embrace a major hardware release and a full range of merchandise, but it's not the only example of the brand tapping into that market. Earlier this year, PlayStation also launched a campaign with Kim Chaewon of LE SSERAFIM, a group with a strong brand in the gaming scene thanks to repeated collaborations with Overwatch.
While the LISA controller might not be a huge draw for general PlayStation fans without a specific interest in LISA or Blackpink, it's certainly a striking departure from any other DualSense that the company has released. The merchandise line, meanwhile, could be interesting to a broader array of LISA fans, as the PlayStation involvement is essentially limited to small logos based on the geometric array of PlayStation face buttons. For those willing to wait a little longer, PlayStation also has two Grand Theft Auto 6 controllers set to land on November 19.
