Lisandro Martínez calls out Manchester United board over poor performance

Translate

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has publicly criticised the club’s hierarchy following the Red Devils’ disappointing 2-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

The Argentine centre-back expressed his frustration with United’s summer transfer business, insisting that the club’s leadership should have done more to strengthen the squad and help the team compete at the highest level. Martínez, while speaking after Tuesday’s defeat, described United’s performance as “really poor” and suggested that the club’s ongoing problems cannot be blamed solely on the manager or the players.

Martínez said,

“I have to control myself a lot, but sometimes it’s a reflection in the mirror of how our club is at the moment."

He also made it clear that he expected greater support from the club’s senior management after United’s successful campaign last season.

Jason Wilcox and the club’s hierarchy to do more in the transfer market, arguing that a stronger squad is essential for competing against Europe’s top teams.

He added,

“I expect more from our technical director. I have to be honest, and also, as players, we have to do more,”

The Red Devils defeat against Atlético Madrid has intensified scrutiny of Manchester United, with the club enduring a difficult run of results across competitions. Martínez’s intervention adds another layer to the growing debate over the club’s recruitment, squad depth and long-term strategy.

The major worries for Manchester United supporters remain whether the club’s leadership can address the structural issues and build a squad capable of consistently competing for major honours.
