Nana Patekar passes away: Medico-legal case registered, postmortem to be conducted

Veteran actor Nana Patekar, one of Indian cinema’s celebrated performers, passed away in Goa on Thursday, October 8. He was 75.

An official confirmation from Manipal Hospital, Goa, confirmed to ANI that the actor was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula and was rushed to the hospital. He was reportedly declared dead on arrival.

As per various reports doing the rounds online, the actor, known for his powerful performances across Hindi and Marathi cinema, was rushed to the hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him. According to Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, medical teams performed CPR for around 45 minutes. He was sadly declared dead at 5:20 am.

While the current cause of death is reported to be a cardiac arrest, an official post-mortem report establishing the cause of death, is awaited.

Born Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar was one of the most respected actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema. Over a career spanning several decades, he was known for his powerful performances and distinctive screen presence.

Patekar made his Hindi film debut with 'Gaman' in 1978 and went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including 'Parinda', 'Prahaar: The Final Attack', 'Krantiveer', 'Agni Sakshi', 'Khamoshi: The Musical', 'Ab Tak Chhappan', 'Apaharan' and 'Natsamrat'.

He was a recipient of three National Film Awards and several other honours, and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts.
