In the years since Star Trek: The Next Generation aired, many of the characters have become iconic among fans and have become intrinsically linked to the actors who played them.
Gates McFadden, who brought Dr Beverly Crusher to life on our screens in all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, is returning to the character once again; this time, as a comic book writer.
Announced by publisher IDW this week, the new limited series, titled Star Trek: Crusher, is set to debut in summer 2027.
Gates McFadden, who previously reprised the character of Dr Crusher in Star Trek: Picard, is set to write the series, with artist Megan Levens and colourist Charlie Kirchoff providing the artwork.
The new series aims to show what Dr Crusher got up to after Star Trek: Nemesis, which was the last time we saw her before her return in Star Trek: Picard.

Star Trek: Crusher’s first issue will debut in summer 2027. The announcement didn’t confirm how many issues the limited series would have.
“It’s such an honor to return to Starfleet and expand Beverly Crusher’s storyline in a whole new way,” McFadden said in a press release accompanying the announcement.

“I’ve spent years bringing the worlds of other great writers to life in Beverly’s shoes, so it’s inspiring and thrilling to now be the one scripting a new chapter in this fabulous character’s saga. I’m excited for Star Trek fans to read this comic and I’m so grateful for their continued support.”
Gates McFadden has spent a long time getting to know Dr Crusher over the years; she played the character in over 150 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation and returned for all four films based on the series.
