Chery Tiggo Cross Sport undercuts Proton X50 by RM6,000

Translate

CHERY Malaysia has sharpened its challenge in the compact SUV segment with the Tiggo Cross Sport Edition, which carries a promotional price of RM83,800.

The Sport Edition is based on the Tiggo Cross Turbo and features additional exterior styling elements, while retaining the existing powertrain and equipment package.

Its standard price is RM91,800 on-the-road without insurance, although the promotional offer brings it RM6,000 below the Proton X50 Executive, priced at RM89,800.

The Tiggo Cross Sport Edition is also RM5,000 cheaper than the regular Tiggo Cross Turbo, which costs RM88,800.

The special edition adds front and rear bodykit extensions and sportier detailing to give the SUV a more aggressive appearance.

It is available in Carbon Black, Khaki White and Phantom Grey.

Under the bonnet, the model is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 147PS and 210Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels.

Chery claims fuel consumption of 6.3 litres per 100km.

The cabin features twin 10.25-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting and a powered driver's seat.

Safety equipment includes six airbags and an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) package featuring adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The price positioning places the Tiggo Cross Sport Edition below several established competitors, although the Proton X50 offers more power.

The X50's 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 178hp and 290Nm of torque, giving it an advantage over the Chery in outright performance.

The X50 range is priced at RM89,800 for the Executive, RM101,800 for the Premium and RM113,300 for the Flagship.

Other alternatives include the Chery Tiggo Cross Hybrid, priced from RM88,800 to RM99,800, and the Honda WR-V, which starts at RM94,900.

The Tiggo Cross Sport Edition therefore targets buyers seeking SUV styling and a competitive price.

The new edition was showcased at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya from Oct 7-11.

Customers could view the vehicle and arrange test drives through Chery Malaysia's authorised dealerships.
