Cooper Hood is the Associate Editor for all new movie releases, in theaters and on streaming. In addition to writing articles about these titles and upcoming releases, he also oversees content planning for each, ensuring that ScreenRant continues to cover major releases for months after their release.

He has written various reviews for ScreenRant that appear on Rotten Tomatoes, coordinated Oscars and San Diego Comic-Con coverage, appeared on CNN to talk about Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, and done select interviews with talent over the years.

Horror movies are most popular in October for Halloween, but you'll be able to stream some excellent scary films in November, too. The upcoming titles range from classic Stephen King adaptations, first installments in ongoing franchises, and modern horror breakouts.

Subscriptions to Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and Peacock will facilitate watching the best horror movies on streaming throughout the month, while Tubi also offers some major titles for free. The fresh offerings in the terrifying genre are perfect options for anyone looking to carry over any leftover Halloween spirit into November, whether you're looking to watch it alone or with a group.

This month might be more about Thanksgiving, but there is plenty to be thankful for with horror films. The best of them can strike fear into anyone who watches them. Many look to balance the jump scares and horrific imagery with some moments of levity, allowing audiences to catch their breath even when they're watching them at home through streaming.

While most streamers are prioritizing adding Christmas-themed films to their libraries in November, there are still new horror movies being offered to subscribers. On top of both Jeeper Creepers streaming on Prime Video and The First Purge hitting HBO Max, there are better scary titles to check out. These are the best horror movies you can stream throughout November 2026.

7 Misery

  • Releasing on Tubi on November 1

Stephen King's 1987 novel became a thrilling psychological horror film in 1990. Directed by Rob Reiner, Misery follows author Paul Sheldon as he is held in the house of obsessive fan Annie Wilkes following a car accident. The movie stars James Caan and Kathy Bates, who won a Best Actress Oscar for her performance.

She is one of the biggest reasons to watch Misery, as she is frightening in the role, but Caan is also quite good. Reiner's direction keeps the movie moving, and it looks great thanks to cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld. Misery holds an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting its status as one of the best Stephen King movies.

6 Scream (1996)

  • Releasing on HBO Max on November 1

Wes Craven reinvented the horror genre with Scream in 1996. The slasher movie, releasing on HBO Max in November 2026, follows Sidney Prescott as a masked killer known as Ghostface starts hunting her and her friends. It stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Jamie Kennedy.

Scream launched an entire franchise thanks to the greatness of Craven's satirical approach to horror. The movie purposefully plays into genre clichés and subverts expectations, while it also features a good dose of humor on top of its brutal violence. Craven managed to make it all work, turning Sidney into an iconic final girl and Ghostface into a lasting symbol. The film holds a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.

You'll have to go to Paramount+ to watch the rest of the franchise in November, though.

5 Don't Breathe

  • Releasing on Hulu on November 1

Taking a turn away from comedy, Don't Breathe is a brutal and terrifying horror movie coming to streaming. Directed by Fede Álvarez, the movie follows a trio of young adults who plan to rob a blind man, only to learn that he's quite prepared for any intruders. It stars Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, and Stephen Lang as The Blind Man.

Don't Breathe puts a fresh spin on the trapped-in-a-house subgenre of horror, with Álvarez ensuring audiences are scared for the leads at every turn. Lang and Levy are standouts in the cast, while the way the plot unfolds becomes quite unsettling. But that works in the movie's favor in this case. Don't Breathe boasts an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you watch Don't Breathe on Hulu and love it, you can jump straight into Don't Breathe 2 on the streamer after.

4 Beetlejuice

  • Releasing on Peacock on November 1

Beetlejuice is far from a traditional horror movie, but that could make it an easier one to watch for some after Halloween once it starts streaming on Peacock in November. Tim Burton's classic horror comedy revolves around the Maitland and Deetz families as they come to encounter Betelguese. The cast features Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, and more.

Burton's style is felt and seen all over Beetlejuice, making it an incredibly fun, gothic, and bizarre horror film. Keaton is absolutely electric in just the few minutes of screen time he gets, while Davis and Baldwin have a great chemistry. O'Hara is hilarious, and Ryder immediately fits with Burton. Beetlejuice holds an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Unfortunately, to watch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice afterward, you'll also need an HBO Max subscription.

3 Insidious

  • Releasing on Netflix on November 15

James Wan and Leigh Whannell are no strangers to starting major horror franchises, and six years after doing so with Saw, they did it again with Insidious. The supernatural horror movie stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Barbara Hershey, and Lin Shaye, as the Lambert family becomes haunted by a terrifying demon. It's among Netflix's November 2026 releases.

Wan and Whannell ensure Insidious is quite scary throughout, with the central demon striking a very spooky look. Wilson and Byrne ground the movie's family drama with their strong performances and sell the suspenseful plot well. It might not finish as well as it starts, but it's clear why Insidious was so successful and launched a series that is still going.

2 Smile

  • Releasing on Netflix on November 15

2022 brought one of the most instantly iconic horror movies in recent years with Parker Finn's Smile. The movie follows a therapist who becomes the latest target of a supernatural entity that gives its hosts a creepy smile. It stars Sosie Bacon, Kyle Callner, Jessie T. Usher, Kal Penn, and Rob Morgan.

The exaggerated smiles made Smile a viral sensation, but they also prove to be quite effective at making viewers uncomfortable each time they appear in the movie. Finn makes an unsettling film built around Bacon's tremendous performance and the haunting supernatural force. It has an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes thanks to those qualities and its deeper themes.

Thankfully, this will bring the whole Smile franchise under one streaming roof, as Smile 2 is already on Netflix.

1 Obsession

Inde Navarrette smiling as Nikki in Obsession
  • Releasing on Netflix on November 17

Audiences made Curry Barker's Obsession the most obsessive horror film of 2026, with the low-budget indie becoming a global sensation. It grossed over $500 million at the box office thanks to great word of mouth. While it has already made its streaming debut on Peacock, November is when it finally heads to Netflix and its massive subscriber base.

The movie follows a man named Bear who makes a wish for his crush, Nikki, to love him more than anything. When his wish comes true, the way that Nikki's "love" for him plays out proves to be more than he bargained for and leaves him questioning what's really happened to his friend. Obsession stars Michael Johnston as Bear, with Nikki becoming a breakout role for Inde Navarrette. The rest of the cast includes Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

Whether it's for a first-time viewing or a rewatch, Obsession is a delightfully entertaining horror movie in all the best ways. It has a well-constructed plot, genuinely great scary scenes, and surprising comedy. It also helps when a performance as good as Navarrette's is at the center of a horror movie. The Netflix release will give Obsession another pop in interest, so be sure to watch it, even if Halloween will be long gone by then.
