Caap to airmen: Avoid flying near Mayon following eruption

MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) on Friday issued a Notice to Airmen (Notam) for flights near Mayon Volcano in Albay.
This came after Mayon recorded a moderately explosive eruption earlier this Friday, sending a grayish ash plume 3,000 meters above the volcano.

The notice will be in effect from 1:27 p.m. this Friday until 11:53 a.m. on Saturday.
“Flight operators are advised to avoid flying near the volcano,” Caap said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) earlier reported that the eruption over Mayon lasted nearly six minutes, from 11:53 a.m. to 11:59 a.m.
Following the volcanic activity, Mayon was placed under Alert Level 3, indicating an increased tendency toward a hazardous eruption. /mr
