Indonesia deploys seven more ships to boost Bali's fuel supplies

Denpasar (ANTARA) - The government has deployed seven additional vessels to transport subsidized fuel to Bali, aiming to extend fuel reserves to 15 days and ease queues at filling stations, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said.

"Currently, Bali's fuel reserves can cover 11 to 12 days of demand. I seek to extend the duration to 15 days. To that end, I am deploying seven additional ships for fuel supplies," he said after chairing a coordination meeting on fuel distribution in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday.

Bahlil explained that shipping constraints had reduced the province's fuel reserves by three to four days, resulting in long queues of vehicles at a number of filling stations in recent days.

The minister noted that Bali stores its fuel supplies at two main terminals located in Karangasem District and Denpasar City.

As part of efforts to address supply concerns, Bahlil said he had instructed state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina to ensure that fuel stocks in Bali could meet up to 15 days of demand.

Also serving as coordinating minister for downstreaming and energy transition, Bahlil made the remarks after meeting with key stakeholders, including Bali Governor Wayan Koster and Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri.

Through its fuel distribution subsidiary Pertamina Patra Niaga, the energy company delivered an additional 48 million liters of subsidized Pertalite (RON 90) fuel to Bali between Oct. 7 and 17.

The firm also deployed additional tanker trucks, introduced round-the-clock operations at filling stations, and implemented an odd-even license plate fuel-rationing policy to help relieve queues.

The policy took effect at Governor Koster's instruction from Oct. 17 to 19 and has since been extended to Oct. 23.
