Group expresses satisfaction with Abia eye centres

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria, Dr Obinna Awiaka, has hailed Governor Alex-Otti-led administration in Abia State for modern facilities and equipment at eye centres.

He spoke after his team had visited eye care centres in Arochukwu General Hospital, Abia State Specialist and Diagnostic Centre, Umuahia and Aba General Hospital.

Awiaka described the facilities as world-class, adding that they are in line with the universal health care standards.
She said, “I have not seen anything like this in Nigeria. And this is almost three decades of practice and I am really thrilled at the attention, the standard, the quality and the equipment that has been put in place for the people of Abia State.

“With what we have here, we will see people coming from all over the South-South and South-East to access eye care.”

In her remarks, the Administrator, Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau, Dr Betty Emeka-Obasi, said that it was the first time that eye centres were getting accreditation from ODORBN and attributed the significance of the visit by the Board to the unwavering commitment of the state governor in ensuring that Abians have access to quality healthcare services.

“We have seen about 35,000 to 37,000 patients walk in, in these two years, and we have gone out there with outreaches, screened, taking out free medicals, surgeries, among others to them out there,” she said.
