Disney's major sci-fi franchise exploring a post-apocalyptic reality where humans are in short supply will soon arrive on a new streaming service. There have been many successful sci-fi movies in recent years. Taking 2026's theatrical slate, Ryan Gosling's Project Hail Mary rose to be one of the year's biggest films, dealing with a hard sci-fi story. That said, the post-apocalyptic branch of the genre continues to perform incredibly well, be it on the big screen or on the small screen. The former includes A Quiet Place: Day One, while the latter has TV shows like The Last of Us, Fallout, and more.

Among those major post-apocalyptic universes is one of the most iconic sci-fi movie franchises of all time, Planet of the Apes. There have been multiple iterations of the franchise, with the most recent one being the reboot series that started with 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, showing how humans started to fall as the apes took over, and whose most recent release was 2024's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the first entry in the franchise without Andy Serkis' Caesar. Now, all four of the modern Planet of the Apes movies from 20th Century Studios are coming to a streamer soon.

The Planet Of The Apes Is Starting A New Era On HBO Max

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be released on HBO Max on November 2. After Disney's acquisition of Fox and the theatrical release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, fans will now be able to watch all four modern Planet of the Apes movies in a single streaming service when they arrive on HBO Max at the start of November alongside other major releases. The Magic Faraway Tree, Tony, Madame Web, and more also release on HBO Max next month.

The reboot Planet of the Apes movie franchise has proven itself extremely successful for Fox/Disney thus far. James Franco's Rise of the Planet of the Apes brought in $481.8 million to kickstart this new chapter. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes saw that grow to a whopping $710.6 million. Then came War for the Planet of the Apes, at a healthy $490.7 million. More recently, the franchise started a new era with a time jump in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which grossed $397. 4 million. There is more on the way.

What Does The Future Hold For The Sci-Fi Franchise?

A fifth Planet of the Apes movie in the reboot series is currently in development at 20th Century Studios. In May, Deadline reported that Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps director, Matt Shakman, would be helming a new Planet of the Apes movie, though the report teased that it would not be connected to Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, serving as a new story in the franchise. Interestingly, the 2024 movie's writer, Josh Friedman, returns to pen this new script — Friedman also co-wrote Shakman's Fantastic Four movie. Fans can then watch the Planet of the Apes franchise on HBO Max to get ready for the next movie.
