Uncharted 5 Pretty Much Guaranteed In New Leak

While Naughty Dog has been busy working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for the last few years, fans have been wondering what comes next. With a stellar back catalog of gaming IP including the Uncharted franchise and The Last of Us duology, Naughty Dog has become legendary for creating and maintaining successful franchises. But with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End feeling like the finale for Nathan Drake's adventures, are we really getting an Uncharted 5 game soon?

Thanks to a message from NateTheHate over on X, we've learned that Shaun Escayg has been working on a secret project for almost three years. Shaun was a previous employee at Naughty Dog and helped with work on both Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. WIth NateTheHate confirming that Shaun's next game isn't an installment of The Last of Us, it seems fairly likely that we're getting Uncharted 5 next.

Of course, it is possible that Shaun Escayg is working on a brand-new IP, but it seems less likely given his experience with the Uncharted franchise and the fact that launching a new IP is risky. With Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet being a new IP itself, it's very unlikely that Naughty Dog would follow it up with yet another new IP. The risk is simply too great and sticking to an already successful franchise is a much safer bet. All signs point to a new Uncharted game, but official confirmation has yet to surface.

The only other information we have about Shaun's secret project is a photo he shared himself on Instagram. It was a photo of a cannon taken in Trinidad & Tobago, and he captioned it as research for his upcoming game. So, if we're really getting a new Uncharted game, it seems likely that the setting might be in Trinidad. WIll we see further adventures of Nathan globe-trotting for one last time before retirement? Or perhaps his daughter Cassie has taken up the mantle and has an itchy trigger finger for pirates.

WIth a full reveal for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet set for 2027, it could be quite a while before we see any more details for Uncharted 5. Whether the game will be a prequel, sequel or franchise reboot remains to be seen, but Naughty Dog has done a stellar job of introducing gamers to a cast of characters with depth that could easily helm the franchise for future installments. A Sully and Sam team up could work well or perhaps even another adventure with Chloe and Nadine from Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Whatever happens next for the franchise is still unclear, but we're just happy to be getting Uncharted 5. Shaun Escayg and team certainly have the talents to deliver a 10/10 action adventure for gamers and once the dust settles on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, hopefully it will be all systems go on the next chapter of the Uncharted franchise. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End sets a high bar, but Naughty Dog has the chops to deliver yet another knockout epic adventure. Now when exactly is the next The Last of Us game coming out?
