Avengers: Endgame Encore: Did Steve Rogers Set Up Dr. Doom’s Revenge In Avengers: Doomsday?
A lot of what will happen in Avengers: Doomsday could have been set up by the events of Avengers: Endgame. While Dr. Doom is set to bring a major threat to the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, one theory suggests that his wrath could stem from what Steve Rogers did when he went back in time to return the stones.
In case you missed it, Avengers: Endgame Encore adds new footage that gives fans more clues about how the events of Avengers: Doomsday will begin. Inevitably, all of this could connect back to Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, staying in the past and sharing a dance with the love of his life, Peggy Carter.
Did Steve Rogers’ Decision Trigger The Incursion?
In the extended footage shown in Avengers: Endgame Encore, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is seen with Peggy Carter. While this scene is taken directly from the 2019 original entry of Avengers: Endgame, the latest addition reveals the house and street shown in the teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, announcing the return of Captain America.

We all know how much he loved Peggy Carter and how he always carried her picture in his compass. However, his happy ending does not last for long. Soon, the couple hears a knock at the door, with the uninvited guest turning out to be Loki. He reveals that he came to help them both.
This exchange of dialogue raises alarm as Loki is now the one protecting the branches of timelines. And with Dr. Doom on his way to hunt down every reality as well as every Earth, it is clear that all of that began from the moment Rogers decided to stay back.
The 2019 Endgame did not follow the rules of time travel. With Nebula killing her past self and remaining alive, and Captain America staying in the past with no major repercussions in the present, the film had many loopholes.
However, they just might be omitted with Doomsday. Captain America staying back in time did not just mean that the present world had no Cap, but also meant that no one fought Ultron, Thanos, alongside the Avengers, or any S.H.I.E.L.D. events that eventually revealed them as HYDRA.
His decision could have sent ripples across timelines and universes, ultimately contributing to the multiversal crisis. With that, one theory suggests that the reality associated with Doctor Doom, Earth-828, could have been affected by the branch created after Steve stayed with Peggy.
As seen in the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr.’s new character states, “All of you have been living stolen lives.”
While he addresses several characters in the trailer, it should be noted that Rogers broke the law of time travel. Meaning, whatever happened after that decision in the present timeline, Earth-616, has been out of order from how it was supposed to be, with the TVA also becoming aware of the growing multiversal crisis in Avengers: Endgame Encore.
However, Marvel has not officially confirmed that Steve Rogers caused the Incursion or that Doom’s anger is specifically directed at him. The connection remains a theory based on the new footage, trailer clues, and the MCU’s established multiverse rules.
Avengers: Doomsday: Everything You Need To Know
Avengers: Doomsday will be the fifth grand ensemble. What makes the upcoming release even more special is that Robert Downey Jr. is all set to step into the MCU, but as a major villain, Dr. Victor von Doom. The story will lead to the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, both of which have been directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
This upcoming outing will also star Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Pedro Pascal, Chris Hemsworth, as well as the newly confirmed names, Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and others. Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, 2026.
