The Elder Scrolls 6 Gets Official Teaser From Bethesda

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.

Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.

Despite being another fantastic year for gaming, there have still been plenty of low moments. In recent weeks alone, beloved companies such as BioWare have announced it will be shutting down, with major releases such as Mass Effect 5 being canceled in response, and there is not to mention multiple mass layoffs taking place due to ongoing acquisitions.

As such, the future is not concrete when it comes to studios and their highly anticipated releases, and one such title that still has fans worried, is The Elder Scrolls VI.

First announced back in 2018 alongside a very brief teaser trailer, The Elder Scrolls VI will mark the first Elder Scrolls entry in fifteen years. However, with hardly any updates from Bethesda, including trailers or even a release window, it is no wonder that fans are praying that a cancelation is not around the corner.

With Bethesda losing more than 50 developers following layoffs back in July, the future was looking uncertain for The Elder Scrolls VI, but in a Twitter/X post by the studio back in the summer, a substantial update was finally made, detailing the current progress, and an update on a potential release date.

In a fairly large statement, Bethesda spoke about all of its current projects, including Starfield and the Fallout franchise. However, it was the news dedicated to The Elder Scrolls VI that pricked up the most ears. In conclusion, it seems as though July's layoffs did not have too much of an impact on the game's development.

"The Elder Scrolls VI is our primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise," the statement reads. "With over 65 million copies sold, players are still exploring Skyrim 15 years later, but we know it’s been a very long wait for the sequel. The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day."

By "playing it every day", we can safely assume that development is quite advanced, and whilst us fans have not seen any official gameplay yet, it is reassuring to learn that TES VI is in a playable state. However, what this does not reveal, is how close the game is to launch.

Another tidbit of information revealed in the statement is that both Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI are being developed "on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform we've been building since Starfield's launch", with the technology allowing Bethesda to "support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games."

Of course, this good news does not distract from the ongoing layoffs by Microsoft, and it is always worth remembering the developers who, despite being dedicated to the future of Bethesda projects, have been forced to leave before the launch of The Elder Scrolls VI. As such, we can only hope that the next installment in The Elder Scrolls franchise will live up to its massive expectations.
