Google is bringing Personal Intelligence to Gemini AI in your car. With this update, Gemini in Android Auto and cars with Google built-in can tap into your information across Google apps, including Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube, and Search.

As an example, Google says you can ask Gemini about your flight status if you’re driving to the airport. The AI assistant can pull your flight details from a confirmation message in Gmail, and then use that information to look up its status. You can also ask Gemini to “take me to my doctor’s appointment” instead of pulling up directions manually, or ask it to “find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate there.”

Google brought its Gemini assistant to Android Auto last year, before rolling it out to cars with Google built-in in April. Several carmakers, including Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, and Polestar, have shipped newer cars with Google built-in, which adds support for native Android apps.

Google says it will only connect your apps to Gemini if you enable its Personal Intelligence setting. It will also only share personalized responses if you have your phone connected to your car. “If you don’t use Personal Intelligence, everything in the car still works: You can use navigation, listen to music, make calls, and ask questions, but the answers won’t be tailored to you,” Google says.

Personal Intelligence is rolling out to Android Auto today, with support coming to cars with Google built-in in the coming months.
