There were reports Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar had an injury, but coach Gian Piero Gasperini revealed ‘he will be out for at least a month,’ so Pierluigi Gollini takes centre stage.
The Giallorossi have had a strong start to the season, sitting joint top of the Serie A table with Inter and Lazio, as well as earning a 1-1 Champions League draw away to Fenerbahce.
Some of that has no doubt been down to the performances of their shot-stopper, but they will be forced to do without him for some huge fixtures coming up, starting with tomorrow against Como.
Gasperini reveals true extent of Svilar injury

“We have lost Svilar for a few weeks, he suffered a stress fracture in training to the fifth finger on his hand,” Gasperini announced in his press conference, to the shock of the assembled media.
“The fracture will require at least a month to be fully healed. The medics are deciding whether or not to put a screw in to help stabilise it, which would allow him to return after the next break for international duty.
“It will be a heavy blow, but in a season these unexpected events do happen. We’ll get Gollini ready, who will have an opportunity to get back to being important.”

Gollini is an unknown quantity for Roma now, because the 31-year-old only made one appearance for the club, in the Europa League last season for a 1-1 draw with Panathinaikos.
He hasn’t featured at all in Serie A in over two years, since Genoa’s 5-1 home defeat to Gasperini’s Atalanta, on October 5, 2024.

His previous clubs include Aston Villa, Atalanta, Fiorentina and Napoli.
