Sitarist Anoushka Shankar’s KL show called off at last minute

Acclaimed British-American sitarist Anoushka Shankar announced a last-minute cancellation of her show scheduled for 8pm tonight in Kuala Lumpur.
In a Facebook post last night, Anoushka said she was excited to perform in Malaysia again after so many years.
“However, due to circumstances beyond our control, the show has been cancelled by the promoter, Shiraz Projects,” she said.
She also said her team has been assured that all ticket holders will receive full refunds, and advised fans to contact the promoter or their respective point of purchase directly regarding the process.
“I feel terrible for the disappointment and inconvenience this causes our audience, especially those of you who made travel arrangements from further afield.
“Please know how much your support means to me, and how deeply sorry I am that we won’t be able to be together as planned on tomorrow (Oct 4) night,” she said.
Shiraz Project also shared Anoushka’s statement on its Facebook page, but offered no further explanation.
FMT has reached out to the firm for comment.
Anoushka, who last performed in Malaysia more than a decade ago, was scheduled for a show at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre tonight.
Netizens have expressed disappointment over the last-minute cancellation, with several asking for an explanation by the promoter.
“Many sitar students and enthusiasts travelled from other cities to be here for the show, having booked hotels, etc. Such last-minute notice without any explanation is just not fair, unless it’s an emergency medical reason,” one netizen said.
