Kelly Rowland Says It’s a “Blessing” Watching Her and Beyoncé’s Kids Grow Up Together

Beyoncé was so blessed to be with her girls.

The “Crazy in Love” singer was joined by daughters Blue Ivy Carter, 14, and Rumi Carter, 9, as she, mom Tina Knowles and best friend Kelly Rowland were on hand for the grand opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston Oct. 13.

The girls made their way to the stage to help their mom with the ribbon-cutting for the special occasion, as seen in footage from the opening of the 31-unit permanent supportive housing development at St. John's United Methodist Church that replaced the original Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, which was built in 1999 but shut down in 2021 due to a fire.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eldest towered over her mom as she stood on stage wearing jeans and a jersey, with her curls pulled into a ponytail, proving she truly is Beyoncé’s mini-me. Rumi looked equally adorable in a dark-colored tennis dress and cardigan—and had some extra fun snipping at pieces of ribbon left on the ground. Beyoncé, meanwhile, opted for a cream-colored dress, matching Rowland’s cream pants suit.

The Destiny’s Child members were also moved as they took the mic to recall memories of the church and its pastors, Juanita Rasmus and Rudy Rasmus, from their childhoods.

“I just want to say it's so many memories here,” Beyoncé began, “and I want to thank Juanita, and I want to thank Rudy because your prayers have held us up, and this church is our foundation.”

The 45-year-old—who also shares son Sir Carter, 9, with Jay-Z—noted that she was baptized in the church, adding, “I feel the Spirit right now and I'm so grateful for that foundation.”

Rowland was equally moved, joking that she “would get up here and not even be able to talk for crying.”

“This place, this space, these souls,” the 45-year-old said through tears. “What a legacy you've built.”

“I’m grateful to be here, and thank you, thank you to the city of Houston,” Rowland continued, “for just being such an anchor for us, for always being able to come back home and being able to give.”
