Star Trek's 60th anniversary has been packed with exciting announcements and releases, including the currently airing season of Strange New Worlds, which is set to continue through to the end of September. The most recent highly-anticipated puppet episode transforms the Enterprise crew into puppets after a transporter accident, and was largely a hit among fans despite catching flack for being a bit gimmicky.

With the official anniversary date approaching on September 8, fans of the franchise are also looking forward to brand-new collaborations, such as the highly anticipated new LEGO sets, a new Magic: The Gathering crossover, and an upcoming Star Trek x WEBTOON comic project as well. However, there's even more to look forward to in the coming months to celebrate 60 years of boldly going where nobody has gone before, with the upcoming release of a brand-new Star Trek game that officially arrives in October 2026 (via Zatu).

Star Trek: Space Hunt is an upcoming real-time, team-based board game from Matagot, designed by Delphine Lemonnier, Roberto Fraga, and Yohan Lemonnier. It's currently expected to hit retailers in October 2026, and the game is currently available to pre-order from Zatu for $32 USD, discounted from its full retail price.

Designed for two to four players, Space Hunt pits two crews against one another aboard iconic Star Trek vessels. Captains secretly navigate a grid, generate energy, and activate abilities including scanners, invisibility, hyperspace warp, and torpedoes, while their teammates listen to the opposing crew's announced movements and attempt to determine their location.

The game adapts the SONAR system, originally developed for Matagot's submarine warfare game Captain Sonar, replacing underwater submarine hunting with hidden starship combat in space. Players must locate and destroy an enemy base before delivering a successful strike against the opposing ship.

For Star Trek fans, Space Hunt looks well worth checking out, particularly because it builds on the proven formula of Captain Sonar, a highly rated tabletop game known for its tense, real-time team play and clever hidden-movement mechanics.

By adapting that system to starship combat, Space Hunt offers a fitting way to bring the franchise’s tactical battles to the tabletop while still feeling distinctly Star Trek. The game arrives at an ideal time during the franchise's 6 anniversary for longtime fans looking for a new way to celebrate six decades of exploration.
