Gurnoor Brar Scripts History In Wellington, Records Rare ODI Feat For India

Translate

Indian pacer Gurnoor Brar registered the second-best bowling figures by an Indian fast bowler in New Zealand during the second ODI against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday. Brar returned impressive figures of 4/30 from 10 overs, claiming the key wickets of Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips and captain Mitchell Santner as India dominated the hosts. The best bowling figures by an Indian pacer in New Zealand remain Javagal Srinath's 4/23 against New Zealand in Auckland in 2003. In 11 ODIs, Brar has now taken 21 wickets at an average of 31.19, with best figures of 4/30. He is also the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing series, with seven wickets at an average of 10.57, including his career-best figures in Wellington.

Coming to the match, India won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The Indian pace attack ripped through New Zealand's top order, reducing the hosts to 53/5. A 59-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell (55 off 104 balls, five fours and two sixes) and Mitchell Santner (31 off 38 balls, one four and two sixes) briefly revived New Zealand's innings.

However, the hosts suffered another collapse, slipping from 112/5 to 134 all out.

Apart from Brar's four-wicket haul, Axar Patel, Auqib Nabi and Anshul Kamboj chipped in with two wickets each.

India now need 135 runs to secure victory and take a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.
