LTFRB denies 2 motorcycle taxi firms accreditation over non-compliance

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has denied the accreditation applications of two motorcycle taxi platform providers (MTPPs) for failing to comply with some of the agency’s requirements.
Lawyer Greg Pua, interim chair of the LTFRB, said a review of GrabBike and Dingdong RiderKo’s operations revealed that they had failed to meet some conditions within the period given to them.
The two MTPPs were earlier granted authority to operate during their pilot implementation in Metro Manila and nearby areas, as well as in other urban areas across the Philippines, the LTFRB said.

Based on its review, the LTFRB found that the two MTPPs “failed to prove continued operation of motorcycle taxi service, active participation, and compliance with the Pilot Study.”
“For this reason, the Board is constrained to deny your application for accreditation as a Motorcycle Taxi Platform Provider,” the LTFRB stated in its letter to GrabBike and Dingdong RiderKo.
Pua advised all MTPPs to comply with the requirements of the Department of Transportation and the LTFRB in exchange for their authority to operate.
He also pointed out that a license to operate is “not a right but a privilege that comes with obligations that must be complied with at all times.” /mcm
