UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE DISBURSEMENTS AND DIGITAL HEALTH TRANSFORMATION
Under the Social Health Authority (SHA), more than 10,000 healthcare facilities across Kenya are now receiving direct financial disbursements, giving them greater operational autonomy to procure medicines and essential medical supplies according to their specific local needs.
Since January 1st, a historic KSh 107 billion has been disbursed to healthcare facilities across the country, representing the largest investment in Kenya’s healthcare sector to date.
This financing model is being reinforced by the full digitization of health services, replacing paper-based records with secure, integrated systems that enable patient information to move seamlessly between healthcare facilities.
Guided by the principle of “Usawa Healthcare,” these reforms are designed to ensure that access to quality, efficient healthcare is not determined by a person’s location or financial circumstances, but is a right guaranteed to every Kenyan.
