The five Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchises will begin shaping their squads for the 2027 season on Monday, with their player retention lists set to be announced today. The retention announcements will provide the first look at the squads heading into the mini-auction, scheduled for October 28 in Kochi. Here’s all you need to know.

When will the WPL 2027 player retentions be announced?

The player retentions for the fifth edition of the WPL will be announced on Monday, September 28, 2026. The five franchises will reveal their retained players ahead of the 2027 season, with the announcement scheduled to begin at 4pm IST.

Where can I watch the WPL 2027 retention announcements live?

The WPL 2027 retention announcements will be telecast on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports Hindi and streamed live on JioHotstar from 4pm IST.

When will the WPL 2027 auction be held?

The WPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled to be held on October 28, 2026, in Kochi. It follows last season’s mega-auction in New Delhi, where 73 slots were filled across the five squads.

How many players can each WPL team retain?

There is no limit on the number of players a franchise can retain ahead of the 2027 season. However, each squad can have a maximum of 18 players and will operate with a Rs. 15 crore salary cap.

When will WPL 2027 be played?

The fifth edition of the WPL will be played from January 14 to February 7, 2027. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions after winning the 2026 season.
