Kaizer Chiefs coach breaks silence on Ngcobo’s situation

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has explained why Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has struggled for regular game time this season.

The 26-year-old midfielder, affectionately known as Mshini, has been linked with a possible exit from Amakhosi ahead of the transfer window closing last month.

Ngcobo has spent more than seven years at Naturena but has yet to establish himself as a regular starter in the Chiefs lineup.

Asked about the midfielder’s situation, Da Cruz insisted that there were no problems between the player and the club, explaining that competition for places had limited his opportunities.

“Nothing happened; there is no issue with Mshini. Other players in his position have simply performed better, like [Mduduzi] Shabalala – Shabalala has performed well,” Da Cruz told KickOff.

The French tactician urged Ngcobo to remain focused and continue working hard in training, insisting that his opportunity would come if he maintained his commitment.

“Mshini just needs to continue working hard. If he continues to work hard, he will get his opportunity, as he already has against Golden Arrows in the MTN8 [quarter-final],” Da Cruz explained.

Ngcobo has made just two appearances for Chiefs this season, raising questions about his long-term future at the club.

With less than 10 months remaining on his contract, the midfielder faces an important period as he looks to convince the technical team that he deserves a more prominent role.

Chiefs could consider loaning him out or allowing him to leave in the next transfer window if his situation does not improve.

Da Cruz’s comments, however, suggest that Ngcobo still has an opportunity to fight for his place, provided he can make the most of his chances.
