Taiwanese recruiters host event in US

Fourteen Taiwanese tech companies and the National Development Council (NDC) on Saturday held a talent recruitment campaign at the annual Taiwan Tech Summit in Silicon Valley, which offered more than 1,000 job openings in Taiwan.

The campaign, called Taiwan Career Day, has been a staple in one form or another at the summit since the summit’s inception in 2022, and this year’s version attracted 3,000 visitors, the NDC said.

NDC Minister Yeh Chun-hsien (葉俊顯) said that locating the overseas talent recruitment platform in Silicon Valley was critical given that Taiwan continues to develop key tech sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, and faces global competition for talent.

The initiative is aimed at bringing talent services directly to where talent is, and promoting job and career development opportunities in Taiwan, Yeh said.

It gives skilled international tech workers an opportunity to learn more about Taiwan and explore career opportunities through direct contact with Taiwanese companies, he said.

Among the Taiwanese companies participating in Taiwan Career Day were Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (台積電), Delta Electronics Inc (台達電), Taiwan Mobile Co (台灣大哥大), Micron Taiwan, Wistron Corp (緯創), MediaTek Inc (聯發科) and Applied Materials Taiwan, the NDC said.

At the fair, 14 companies were seeking skilled tech workers in such fields as semiconductors, information and communications technology, software and AI development, it said.

Several Taiwanese research institutions, including Academia Sinica and the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and universities also took part in the job fair and arranged one-on-one interviews for teaching and research positions.

In addition to the NDC, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the National Immigration Agency, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taiwan’s overseas offices set up booths at the job fair to promote the nation’s efforts to recruit foreign talent.

At the recruitment event, Michael Foley, a senior software engineer at US software developer Salesforce Inc, received his Employment Gold Card from Yeh.

Launched by the NDC in 2018, the Employment Gold Card program aims to attract skilled professionals in 12 fields, including digital technology, finance, arts and culture, law, and science and technology.

The card combines a work permit, resident visa, Alien Resident Certificate and re-entry permit, allowing holders to seek employment freely in Taiwan. It also grants work rights to spouses, access to the national health insurance system for dependents and tax incentives.
