Cliff Richard doesn’t know what ‘GTA 6’ is – despite ‘Devil Woman’ sync resurgence

Cliff Richard’s ‘Devil Woman’ is having a revival thanks to a Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer – but the singer has no idea what the game is.

Last month, Rockstar Games teamed up with Netflix for an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6. The 26-minute showcase featured brand new gameplay footage and a better look at co-protagonists Lucia and Jason, who’ll be trying to survive the tough streets of Vice City in the highly-anticipated game.

‘Grand Theft Auto: An Extended Look’ racked up more than 31.1million views in its first few days on Netflix, and was the most-watched show on the streamer in 87 of the 93 countries that Netflix services. A further 33million people have watched on YouTube.

The music that featured in ‘Grand Theft Auto: An Extended Look’ has also received a huge boost across streaming.

According to one report, Captain & Tennille’s ‘But I Think It’s A Dream’ saw a 130,730 per cent increase in global streams in the three days after the release of the Grand Theft Auto 6 showcase compared to the week before. Meanwhile Depeche Mode‘s ‘80s synth-pop hit ‘People Are People’ saw a 190 per cent global streaming increase alongside a 700 per cent increase in playlist additions and Cliff Richard’s ‘Devil Woman’ saw a 325 per cent increase with Gen Z music fans.

During a fan Q&A with The Times, Richard has revealed that he has no idea what Grand Theft Auto 6 is. “My nephew, who has two boys, said they came screaming to him, ‘Dad, it’s Uncle Cliff! [in GTA 6]’ They didn’t realise I could sing like that. The show is a game show, isn’t it, really? One of the biggest on TV?”

“People will no longer just say, ‘Oh, Cliff Richard is from the past,” he continued. “Because I am, but that past is what makes everything what it is today.”

Last week it was confirmed that Justice created an original score for Grand Theft Auto 6 and also contributed to ‘Grand Theft Auto 6 – The Album’, which features 34 brand new tracks from some of the biggest artists around.

However one report claims Rockstar originally wanted Daft Punk for the Grand Theft Auto 6 score – but the dance titans weren’t interested in reforming for the game.
