The Expanse Officially Returns In New 6-Part Prequel Release

The Expanse is one of the best original sci-fi shows of the last decade or more, running for six seasons from 2015 and scooping up a ton of plauditz from fans in the process. Though that run has now come to an end (and in 2026 we should be grateful that it got the chance to tell a full story), the lore continues in a bunch of other projects.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is an upcoming action RPG that's set in the same universe as the show, allowing players to shape their own characters and narrative within its confines. That's not the only exciting project attached to the IP though, and a slightly older release is about to get a whole new version that fans will definitely want to be aware of.

A few years ago, you will likely remember the release of The Expanse: A Telltale Series, a narrative masterclass that was uniquely well suited to the universe created by the original books. If you didn't get the chance to play it at launch back in 2023, the description for the full game reads as follows:

"Experience the exciting universe of The Expanse like never before in Telltale’s latest adventure, The Expanse: A Telltale Series. Take on the role of Camina Drummer and explore the dangerous and uncharted edges of the Belt aboard the Artemis. From scavenging wrecked ships in a zero-g environment, to surviving a mutiny, to combating fearsome pirates, you make the difficult choices and reveal Camina Drummer’s resolve in this latest Telltale adventure.

"Immerse yourself in the role of Camina Drummer, the Executive Officer aboard the Artemis, a scavenging ship hunting for a big score in the outer regions of the Belt. You must corral a crew rife with tense relationships and powerful personalities, and make tough decisions that will decide everyone’s fate."

The exciting new development, particularly given the recent high-profile issues over at Sony, is that the game is getting a physical release via Limited Run Games for both the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. It includes all five episodes of the story, as well as the bonus effort ARCHANGEL, and it's currently available for pre-order via the website.

Both versions clock in at £40/$40, though it is worth noting that they are currently in the pre-production stage, and so you will be waiting a little while to get your hands on it. The current estimated ship date is Jan 1 – Mar 31, 2027, so just factor that into your thinking before committing to a purchase.

As for the aforementioned The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, that latest effort is set to debut in Q2 of 2027, though we don't have a full release date for that one just yet, on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass.
