Heidi Giokos makes TV comeback with new SABC News role

Heidi Giokos is heading to SABC News, with the seasoned journalist set to join the weekend edition of Fullview.

The appointment puts Giokos back on television just weeks after her departure from eNCA, where she spent more than a decade building her career as a reporter and anchor.

SABC News confirmed that Giokos will form part of its weekend Fullview line-up.

New role at SABC News

Giokos brings extensive experience across breaking news, current affairs and business journalism.

SABC News Group Executive Deidre Uren said the broadcaster was pleased to welcome her.

“We are delighted to welcome Heidi Giokos to the SABC family,” Uren said.

She added that Giokos’s experience and commitment to journalism aligned with the public broadcaster’s mandate to inform and educate South Africans.

Giokos holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and an Honours degree in Communications.

Her career has seen her move between the studio and the field, covering major economic, political and breaking news stories.

The SABC said her experience would add to its weekend news offering.

Her appointment follows a difficult end to her time at eNCA, where she had become one of the channel’s most recognisable journalists.

Giokos spoke out after eNCA exit

Giokos addressed her departure in a social media post on 1 August, thanking viewers for their support.

She said the messages she received had reminded her why “integrity, humanity, bravery and the truth matter”.

“For me, journalism has always been about telling the truth without fear or favour,” she wrote.

Her departure followed an internal disciplinary process reportedly linked to outside commercial work.

Giokos did not publicly go into the details of the matter and instead focused on her commitment to journalism and the support she had received.

Her move to SABC News now opens the next chapter of her broadcasting career, with viewers set to see her on the weekend edition of Fullview.
