IPOH, Oct 31 — Police are tracking down suspects involved in a shooting incident in which several shots were fired at a BMW in front of a house in Taman Hijau, Kampung Koh, near Sitiawan, yesterday.

Manjung police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said that police received a report from a man at 1.54 pm yesterday regarding the incident.

He said investigations revealed that the incident was believed to have occurred at 4.16 am on the same day, when the complainant, who was inside his house, heard what sounded like gunshots. The complainant later discovered about 9 am that there were four bullet marks on the right-side door of his vehicle.

“A review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene showed two unidentified suspects approaching the vehicle on a motorcycle,” he said in a statement today.

“One of the suspects then fired shots at the vehicle before fleeing. Police have opened an investigation paper and the case is being investigated under Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960,” he said, adding that efforts to track down the suspects were ongoing.

Hasbullah said members of the public with any information on the incident were urged to come forward at the Manjung district police headquarters (IPD) or contact its Operations Room at 05-688 6222, the WhatsApp hotline at 017-682 8005, or any nearby police station.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Hasbullah said police had arrested a man and two women, aged between 24 and 26, on suspicion of being involved in the theft of a Toyota Hilux belonging to a man in Taman Mas 2, Sitiawan.

He said the three suspects had been remanded for six days, from October 28 to November 2, to facilitate investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code.

“At about 5.30 pm on October 27, a team of police personnel from the Manjung IPD arrested all three suspects, who were believed to be involved in the incident. Police also seized a car key reader device believed to have been used in the vehicle thefts, as well as several other items.

“Interrogations found that the suspects admitted to being involved in eight vehicle theft cases, four in Perak and four in Kuala Lumpur, using the same modus operandi and targeting four-wheel-drive vehicles,” he said. — Bernama

* Editor’s note: The initials IPD stands for Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah in Malay. Section 379A of the Penal Code concerns the theft of a motor vehicle or any of its component parts, and carries imprisonment of between one and seven years upon conviction, and the offender is also liable to a fine.
